You know the drill. You head out to meet friends, which involves one alcoholic drink after another, jumping from one bar to another, going from one drunken conversation to another, eating from one unhealthy fast food joint to another and ending it all with a KILLER hangover the next day (or a 3 day hangover in my case).
But what if there was a pub crawl that involved no alcohol, no unhealthy fast food and no hangover? Is that even possible? Yes, it is! It’s called a Juice Crawl. And while visiting NYC, I jumped at the chance to join in!
The afternoon started with registration at Athleta in the Flatiron District. It was great to personally meet the founders of Juice Crawl, Anna and Jake. This is where we receive the itinerary for our afternoon and a green wristband to identify us as a Juice Crawler! This is also where we get to try our first juice from Daily Greens.
At the beginning of a Juice Crawl there is a fitness class which varies each time. Our class was a breathing style meditation workshop which was held in the fitness studio basement of Athleta. Click here for Athleta locations and class schedules.
After class, we receive our second juice from cold pressed juice company, Rawpothecary. I loved the unique combination of Lemon, Ginger, Liquorice, Safflower, Hibiscus Flower & Sea Salt.
Next we head out into the streets of Manhattan to our first juice bar called Juice Press. We sample Clean Green Protein, Mother Earth, Love Me, Matcha Latte & Mother F’ing Fireball. And yes as the name suggests that last one does feel like a fireball rolling down your throat! It’s a super powerful shot that probably needs a chaser! It’s made from cucumber, celery, swiss chard, kale, dandelion, parsley, orange, ginger, lemon, cayenne powder & oil of oregano. All super powerful healing ingredients to kick any sign of a cold to the curb.
My favourite would have to be the Matcha Latte! It’s a dairy free chilled latte made with almond milk, coconut milk, coconut nectar, matcha, green tea and mint. I really loved the mint flavour along with the matcha.
A few blocks up we arrive at The Juice Shop. We sample a selection of juice, smoothies and rooibos ice tea. As well as yummy samples of their healthy salad bowls.
The next Juice Bar we arrive at is Terri. The samples here are a lot bigger and I have to be honest, by now I am struggling to drink one let alone all the others on offer! Live Long & Green, Energy, Health Insurance, Spice Of Life and Lady In Red were the last juices of the day as our Juice Crawl ended here – 25 juices later!
The Juice Crawl is also a great way to meet like minded people. It was fun to have conversations with people who also enjoy living healthy. And being completely sober, I can actually remember them all. Which is a bonus! I really enjoyed being able to try so many juice & smoothie combinations that perhaps I would not have tried before. I loved sampling the new flavours and finding new favourites.
The other BIG bonus ….. the next day I felt GREAT. No hangover, no anxiety, no what the hell did I do last night feeling, no negative emotions whatsoever. And how awesome is that?!
Currently the Juice Crawl is only located in Manhattan, NYC. However, Anna wants to expand it to other cities. Which I think is a great idea! The more people exposed to a Juice Crawl the better, I say! I really enjoyed my afternoon and it was fun to experience something new. With all my traveling, this is the first one I have ever come across. So if you are visiting New York City, make sure to check out the Juice Crawl!
