Alchemy is one of Bali’s most popular raw vegan cafe’s, situated in the Penestanan area of Ubud and is also one of my favourite places to visit when I am in Bali. It sits just in front of The Shift hotel and I think I may need to stay there next time so I can eat at Alchemy every day!
When you first walk in you encounter the Juice Bar. They have an amazing range of fresh juice combinations, all freshly cold pressed. And the smoothie selection is impressive! You will not know what to try first! All the smoothies are prepared with fresh ingredients, coconut water, freshly made nut milks, organic essential oils and the best quality superfoods. And of course are all raw and vegan. Also, you will not find any plastic straws here! Environmentally friendly straws made out of bamboo are used to help you suck up all that healthy goodness!
The Alchemy Raw Breakfast Bar starts from 7am until 11am where you can construct your own delicious breakfast parfait of dairy free fruit yogurts, nut & seed milks, topped with all sorts of exotic fruits and raw granola style superfood toppings. The image below is courtesy of @welikebali.
I love the Raw Salad Bar which is open from 11am until 9pm, every day. The combinations are endless. You start with a base of mixed greens and then have the choice of a huge assortment of vegetables, fermented/marinated and dehydrated toppings, including nuts and seeds. The healthy salad dressings are also so tasty and will finish off your salad nicely.
The big blackboard behind the counter displays the innovative raw vegan appetisers and mains. The vietnamese rolls were nothing like I have ever tried before. The outer wrap is made out of dehydrated papaya! I also tried the Alchemy Tasting Plate, which is a great way to taste mini versions of their favourite dishes.
I love the raw vegan maki rolls here. Instead of rice they cleverly use jicama (Yam). The cream cheese is made from cashews and I really like the sneaky way of using papaya to resemble salmon that you find a lot in traditional maki rolls. The sushi is accompanied with real ginger, wasabi, lime and a beautiful warming miso soup. (One of the best miso soups I have ever had!)
Alchemy’s take on a caesar salad is so tasty. Their version adds strawberry’s, capers, a vegan parmesan made from nuts and ‘bacon’ style pieces made from coconut. All the varied flavours work so well together, I totally recommend trying this!
Alchemy also has a Health Store that stocks all your healthy essentials, from organic skincare, superfoods and supplements to fresh organic produce. You can also find here healthy beverages like Kombucha and Coconut kefir drinks.
Above Alchemy Cafe is Alchemy Holistic, a centre for Energy Healing, Colonic Hydrotherapy, Ozone Therapy, Acupuncture, Reiki & Spiritual Healing as well as many other treatments to create mental, physical and emotional balance. You can even have a quick vitamin C and B12 shot from the lovely nurse here before going downstairs to enjoy a healthy lunch!
The desserts at Alchemy deserve a special mention! They are all made with the highest quality ingredients and natural sweeteners and taste amazing. Alchemy’s desserts are so good, I even asked them to create a Raw Dessert Bar for my wedding a few months back! The picture below is from the dessert tasting. And yes! I chose them all.
The Raw Chocolates are the perfect little treat. Again they are made with the best ingredients possible and taste amazing! You can even have them beautifully gift boxed to take away for yourself or as a gift. However, it is important to remember they are ‘raw’ chocolates and are delicate, so they have to be kept cool. But the effort is worthwhile to enjoy these little pieces of heaven later.
While in Ubud, visiting Alchemy is a must! Whether you are a hard core raw foodist or just curious to find out what raw food is all about, this is a place you need to check out. And if you do, make sure to have a raw dessert for me! I promise you will not be disappointed!
